Diving in Limnos

Limnos is considered to have one of the best preserved marine ecosystems of the Aegean. So, if you like swimming and diving or you wish to be introduced to the underwater world, it is the best destination for you. The crystal clear waters and a huge underwater wealth from the Posidonia sea-grass beds to the great variety of fish fauna of at least 40 species of fish and shellfish, expand in front of you offering a majestic view. Furthermore, the exceptional underwater geological formations caused by the volcanic activity of the region is a unique sight.

It is worth knowing that on the island and in particular in Nea Koutali from 1963 until 1970 a Public School of Divers operated as a result of the inhabitants’ love for diving and sponge fishing.

On the island there are many diving schools offering their services to experienced divers as well as beginners. Some of the interesting diving spots of the area are the shipwreck at Kompi, the peninsula of Fakos and the rocky area of Evgatis as well as at the skerry Prasonisi.
