With a coastline of 370 km., Lesvos is an ideal destination to those who love the sea. The wonderful sandy or pebbled beaches and the crystal clear waters offer moments of peace and restfulness in a landscape of unparalleled beauty. You can relax in isolated, even remote beaches, or do water activities and sports in organised beaches which provide everything you need to enjoy the blue waters of the Aegean.

 

BEACHES OF EASTERN LESVOS

TSAMAKIA

Near the castle of Mytilini and next to its pine grove, you can enjoy your swim in the beach Tsamakia. The beach is organized with sunbeds, umbrellas, change rooms and showers. There is also a bar serving snacks, refreshments and drinks until late at night. It is an ideal choice for those who stay in the city of Mytilini and do not want to use car, as it is located in short distance from its centre. It is frequented by all ages offering moments of freshness to its visitors. Every year it is awarded with a Blue Flag.


NEAPOLI- KRATIGOS

A few kilometres out of Mytilini towards the airport, you can find the beaches Neapoli and Kratigos. They are pebbled and sandy with light blue waters and face the opposite coasts of Asia Minor. They are relatively small organized beaches with beach kiosks which gather people who seek a short distance getaway from the capital, Mytilini.


CHARAMIDA

Charamida is found south of Mytilini and 12 km from the airport. It is a long pebbled and sandy beach. One part of it is organised with umbrellas, sunbeds and showers. Its clear waters attract many visitors and it is ideal for families with children. In the beach kiosks and bars you can enjoy your snack or drink and at a close distance you can find taverns for a delicious meal after your swim.


AGIOS ERMOGENIS

In the south of Mytilini at a distance of 20 km. and passing the beach of Charamida you will reach Agios Ermogenis, another small magical sandy beach with blue waters and pine trees going down to the sea. The white small church of Agios Ermogenis is found climbed on the slope over the beach. After enjoying your swim, you can taste local recipes at the taverna near the sea.


 KANONI

North of Mytilini at a distance of 8 km., near the village Thermi, you will find Kanoni. It is a sandy beach with clear, warm and shallow waters. There are umbrellas, sunbeds and showers. It is usually high frequented and there are beach bars and restaurants next to the sea. Every year it is awarded with a Blue Flag.


petalidiPETALIDI

North of Mytilini, in the road to Mandamados at a small bay, you can find the organized beach Petalidi. It is sandy and pebbled with shallow and clear waters. You can lay under an umbrella or use the natural shade of salt cedars that reach the sea, while enjoying your coffee or grab a snack from the nearby hotel, bar and restaurant.

 

 

 


SKALA OF MYSTEGNA

Skala of Mystegna is the haven of the homonymous village, located about 16 km. north from Mytilini. In the settlement you can find holiday homes and rooms to let. Skala of Mystegna is a bay with eastern orientation and a picturesque harbour. The beach with the crystal clear waters in the north side of the harbour is sandy, while at the south part the beach becomes pebbled. There are umbrellas with sunbeds, cafes and small tavernas with fresh fish and traditional dishes.


KSAMBELIA

Ksambelia is a beautiful, organized sandy beach with clear waters, 22 km. north of Mytilini, in the road to Mandamados. It is ideal for families with children as its waters are shallow. There are umbrellas, sunbeds and showers, as well restaurant and bar.


PEDI

Pedi is a beach with thick sand and crystal clear waters in the northeast part of the island, 30 km from Mytilini in the road to Mandamados. It is relatively shallow and is ideal for families with children


 BEACHES OF NORTHEAST LESVOS

 

AGIOS STEFANOS

The settlement of Agios Stefanos is found southeast from Mandamados, at a distance of 5 km., with one of the oldest byzantine chapels of the island. The homonymous sandy beach with a view to the islets Tokmakia is an ideal destination for those who prefer quiet beaches to swim.


CHRYSI AMMOS

Chrisi Ammos, one of the most beautiful beaches of the island, is found close to Mandamados. It is also called “Ktima tou Papa” (the priest’s farm). It is a relatively remote beach and to reach it you have to cross the settlement of Agios Stefanos, follow a dirt road and walk for about 5 minutes. But it is worth it, as in the end, you will meet a landscape of natural beauty with golden sand and shallow light blue waters! If you are planning to stay there all day you will need to have with you water and some snack.


TSONIA

A small road from the village Kleio, in the northeast of the island, drives you to Tsonia. It is a coastal settlement with a beach with reddish thick sand and a small harbor for the boats. You can enjoy your swim in the crystal waters and then have lunch in one of the fish tavernas near the beach. There are boat trips from Molyvos to this picturesque beach.


 

BEACHES OF NORTHERN LESVOS

 

KAGIA

Kagia is located on the north part of the island at a short distance from picturesque Skala of Sykamnia. The pebbled beach of Kagia has crystal waters and every year is awarded with a Blue Flag. In the region you can find fish tavernas where you can taste local titbits and fresh fish after your swim.


EFTALOU – AGIOI ANARGYROI

Northwest of the island at a distance of 4 km from Molyvos you will find Eftalou, haven of the broader region. The pebbled beach of Eftalou is organized with crystal blue waters. If you park your car before the hot springs found there and after some minutes of walking, you will arrive in a more remote beach, that of Agioi Anargyroi with the homonymous small church. The beach is also pebbled with clear waters. There are showers and change rooms. It is ideal for a refreshing dive in the waters after bathing in the nearby thermal springs. Every year they are awarded with a Blue Flag. In the region you will also find fish tavernas with local treats and of course fresh fish as well as hotels, rooms to let and holiday homes.


MOLYVOS

In the northwest part of the island at a distance of 62 km from Mytilini you will find the traditional settlement of Molyvos (Mithymna) with its imposing castle and the traditional stone houses. Its cosmopolitan pebbled beach spreads at its fringe. It is organized with umbrellas, sunbeds, showers and change rooms and every year it is awarded with a Blue Flag. A bit further, the beach becomes sandy, more isolated and it is named Psyriara by the locals. At the restaurants of the region, you can enjoy a delicious meal of local or international flavours, or soothe your thirst with refreshing cocktails at one of its beach bars.


PetraPETRA

Petra is found 55 km. northwest from Mytilini. Its 3km long sandy beach extends in front of the settlement. It is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island with crystal clear waters. You can use the umbrellas and the sunbeds found there and besides swimming you can do water sports and scuba diving. Along the beach you will find many restaurants serving local dishes and fresh fish, cafes and bars. In the region there are hotels and rooms to let. If you will be there in the afternoon you will enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets. In the bay of Petra there are the small uninhabited islets Agios Georgios, Mikro Nisi, Glaronisi and Myrmigi which are ecological observatories

 


anaxosANAXOS

In the northwest part of Lesvos you will find another beautiful beach, Anaxos, haven of the village of Skoutaros. In the region there are holiday homes, hotels and rooms to let, shops and restaurants. The beach of Anaxos is one of the most popular beaches on the island to locals and tourists, who visit it every year. It is a sandy beach with light blue waters extending for one kilometer, with umbrellas, sunbeds and showers. Every year it is awarded with a Blue Flag


 

BEACHES OF NORTHWEST LESVOS

 

gavathasGAVATHAS – KAMBOS

In the northwest of Lesvos and at a distance of 10 km from the village of Antissa, you will find the beautiful settlement of Gavathas with the small church of Agios Panteleimon and the picturesque harbor. The calm sandy beach and the clear shallow waters make it an ideal destination for families with children. It is not organised but you can sit under the shade of salt cedars in the beach. It is protected by south winds, however, those who love wind surfing can find there their heaven on earth when north winds blow. After your swim you can taste delicious titbits in the seaside tavernas of the region. A more isolated swimming spot is the neighbouring beach, Kambos, with pebbles and sand.


ARCHAIA ANTISSA – KALO LIMANI  – TSICHRANTA

Archaia Antissa is located a few kilometres from Antissa, in the east of Gavathas. The beach is rocky with shallow waters and not very frequented. In the region there are tavernas. Kalo or Tsamour Limani is found in the north of Skalohori and in the east of Antissa. It is an isolated beach, an ideal fishing spot where you can find a fish taverna in case that you would like to have a snack. Another small beach found after Kalo Limani is Tsichranta.


 

BEACHES OF WESTERN LESVOS

 

 

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASKALA OF ERESSOS

In the southwest of Lesvos you will find one of the most beautiful beaches of the island, Skala of Eresos, haven of the homonymous settlement. The relaxing and restful atmosphere is all over the place, making it an absolute summer destination. But when the sun sets, its vivid nightlife awakens the spirit and makes the body move to the summer rhythm in the bars next to the sea. The beach with its thick grey sand extends over an area of about 3 km. while a part of it is organised with umbrellas, sunbeds and showers. You can have fun by doing water sports, wind and kite surfing. The beach has been repeatedly awarded with a Blue Flag. In the seaside restaurants on the wooden decks you will taste local and international dishes, while in the beach bars, you can enjoy refreshing cocktails in alternative ethnic rhythms, gazing at the sunset. It is a beautiful village with souvenir shops, hotels and many rooms to let.


KOHYLOPOTAMOS – TSIHLIONTA

These two beaches, Kohylopotamos and Tsihlionta, are suitable for those who seek absolute isolation in sandy beaches with clear waters. You will need to drive in a long dirt road between Eressos and Sigri. Kohylopotamos is closer to the settlement of Sigri with thin white sand and shallow waters. The beach took its name from the many sea shells (kohylia) you can find there. Further away following the dirt road to Eresos, you will meet the river Tsihliontas. Following the river-bed you will arrive at the homonymous remote sandy beach. If you are planning to stay all day, you should have with you water and some snack.


sigriSIGRI

Sigri is located on the west, at a distance of about 93 km from Mytilini. It is the largest natural harbor of the island. Its beautiful beach is located on the south of the settlement, in a protected bay with a view to its castle. It is sandy with shallow waters, ideal for families with children. There is a beach kiosk with sunbeds and umbrellas, as well as salt cedars which will protect you from the sun. You will find rooms to let and tavernas where you can taste traditional dishes and of course fresh fish. If you love wind-surfing, you will have a lot of opportunities to enjoy this sport in the nearby bays. You can also visit by boat the neighbouring islet of Nissiopi and admire petrified tree trunks on the islet as well as under the sea.


Panagia_FaneromeniFANEROMENI

The remote beach of Faneromeni, with the homonymous chapel, is found in the region of Sigri, 4 km north of the village. You will arrive there following a rural road. Its long sandy beach with the imposing rock on its one end is ideal for those who wish to enjoy the blue waters of the Aegean away from the crowds. The landscape is volcanic and exposed to north winds. This makes it ideal destination for wind-surfers.

 


BEACHES OF SOUTHERN LESVOS

At a distance of 8 km. from the intersection Mytilini-Plomari, in the south part of the island, at the foot of a hill, you will find one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, Tarti. It is an ideal summer destination to enjoy your swim in its crystal clear blue waters and relax on its wide sandy coast. There are umbrellas and sunbeds as well as tavernas by the sea, serving traditional dishes and fresh fish. In the region you can find holiday homes and rooms to let.

 


Agios_IsidorosAGIOS ISIDOROS

The beach of Agios Isidoros is located 2 km. east from picturesque Plomari, in the south part of Lesvos. It took its name from the church of Agios Isidoros found there. The organised beach of 1.5 km long with white thin pebble and cold blue waters is awarded every year with a Blue Flag. The beach is ideal for sea sports. In Agios Isidoros there are hotels and rooms to let. At the restaurants of the region you can enjoy local flavours and accompany them with the famous ouzo drink, produced in Plomari.

  


Ammodeli&Esso_Papas_AMMOUDELI – ESSO PAPAS

Ammoudeli is a small beach near the square of Plomari to the west, towards the road to Melinda. In the quarter of Agia Paraskevi, you can find the organized beach Esso Pappas with clear waters, umbrellas,sunbeds and showers. In the region there are shops and tavernas where you will enjoy delicious local recipes.

 

 


MelindaMELINDA

West of Plomari, at a distance of 6 km.  you will reach the beach of Melinda. You will arrive there through Plomari or Palaiochori. An imposing rock of 10 m. height is the main characteristic of this beautiful beach which is one kilometer long with sand and pebbles. Melinda is an ideal place for those who seek a calm beach for swimming. In its seaside tavernas you will enjoy local flavours and fresh fish. Panagia Krifri (Hidden Virgin Mary) is found a bit further, at a remote but wonderful landscape. It is a chapel hidden in a rock and it is easier to reach it by boat. From there, you can dive in the blue green sea and discover the thermal springs coming out from the rocks.


DROTA

In the south part of Lesvos and after an easily accessible dirt road of 7 km. long from Akrasi you will reach the settlement of Drota. Its beautiful pebbled beach is ideal for those who seek calmness and relaxation in a landscape of real beauty.


VATERA

In the south part of the island and at a distance of about 50 km southwest of Mytilini close to Polichnitos, the settlement of Vatera is located with the largest beach of the island. Its length is about 10 km. and its width expands from 10 to 30 m. It is a sandy beach with blue waters, partially organised with sunbeds and umbrellas, but mainly remaining untouched. It is awarded with Blue Flag and it is an ideal summer destination for all tastes and ages. The location is suitable for water sports, boat excursions, sailing and fishing. Along the beach there are shops, cafes, where you will enjoy a cool drink and many restaurants and tavernas where you can taste traditional recipes and fresh fish. The settlement is surrounded by hills with pine and olive trees. There are holiday homes, hotels and rooms to let. In the right end of the beach at a distance of about 3 km from its centre, you will find the cape of Agios Fokas with the homonymous chapel built next to an early Christian church, with columns from the Temple of Dionysos Vrisaios.


TAVARI

Tavari is found at the southwest part of the island, 4 km far from the village Mesotopos. It is a beautiful settlement with holiday homes, rooms to let and a picturesque small harbour with fishing boats. Some parts of its sandy beach are organised with umbrellas, sunbeds and showers. Enjoy your swim in the shallow waters and your meal in one of the tavernas near the sea or have a coffee or drink in the nearby cafes.


podarasPODARAS  – CHROUSSOS

Podaras and Chroussos are found at the southwest part of the island, in the east and the west of the village of Tavari respectively. In both cases, you have to drive in a dirt road. Podaras is a beach with sand and pebbles, cold crystal waters, ideal for those who wish to swim in a more remote and calm coast without many human interventions. However, you will not get thirsty or hungry, as there is a beach kiosk for a snack, coffee or even ouzo with titbits. There are showers and change rooms. If you wish to explore the river at the end of the beach you will definitely come across water turtles and frogs. On the other side of Tavari, you will find Chroussos. It is one of the most beautiful beaches of the island with thick sand and clear waters. In its volcanic landscape you will also find a green zone of flatland, along the river of Maliontas which empties in the left side of the beach. The access is not very easy (4 km of dirt road) that’s why it is a calm beach suitable for relaxation, away from the crowd. There are showers and change rooms as well as two beach kiosks, one in each end, where you can have a drink or even local recipes.


 

BEACHES AT THE GULF OF GERA

EVREIAKI

About 20 km from Mytilini in the Gulf of Gera, you will find the haven of Paliokipos, Evreiaki. It took its name from the width of its coast (evreia = broad). It is an organized beach with small pebble ideal for families with children. Evreiaki, when suitable winds blow, is ideal for wind surfers. In the region you will find holiday residencies, rooms to let and traditional tavernas.


AVLONAS – FTELI – TSILIA – LIGONARI

Avlonas is a small picturesque bay at the entrance of the Gulf of Gera. If you like the unspoiled landscape without human interventions, you can enjoy your swim there or a bit more remotely in the nearby small bays such as Fteli, Tsilia, Ligonari and then taste traditional titbits in local tavernas.


 

BEACHES AT THE GULF OF KALLONI

 

SKALA OF KALLONI

The beach of Skala of Kalloni is found about 4 km from Kalloni at the homonymous gulf. It is mainly an organised beach where you can enjoy water sports. Its fine thin sand and shallow warm waters makes it ideal for families with children. In Skala of Kalloni you will find cafes and many restaurants where you should definitely taste, among others, fresh fish and the famous sardine of Kalloni named “papalina”. There are also hotel units, apartments and rooms to let.


SKALA OF POLICHNITOS – NYFIDA

Skala of Polichnitos is the haven of the homonymous settlement and is located in the Gulf of Kalloni. The sandy beach and the clear blue waters invite you to enjoy your swim in a calm natural environment. Do not miss to taste delicious titbits and fresh fish in the picturesque harbor of the region. About 4 km away, you will find Nyfida. The one kilometer long sandy beach, combined with the shallow and calm waters of the gulf, makes it suitable destination for families with children.
